Did you know that the Old Masters like Da Vinci (Mona Lisa) and Michelangelo (Sistine Chapel) used color glazes to paint a complete monochromatic charcoal drawing. They did not paint using a particular palette, nor did they mix color as the modern method is taught today. More importantly, did you know why they painted that way? Open to all levels, this workshop will take you through the three simple steps of drawing your image on the canvas, painting your image as a monochromatic underpainting, and coloring your image in a sequence of thin glazes. No color palette. No mixing colors. No mistakes. Painting without frustration.

This painting method creates an interesting visual and tactile surface on the canvas. The painting can be done completely with palette knives or in combination with brush work. One big advantage is that a painting can be done quickly; in a matter of a few days. Our goal will be to complete one painting during the 2 day workshop. Acrylics or oil paints can be used. The recommended subject matter is landscape, seascape, field and flowers, buildings/cityscapes, boats/harbour scenes etc. People may be included in the work but please note this is not a portraiture workshop.
