Supply List for Acrylic Painting - You Can Do It
The success of your painting experience is dependent on the quality of the materials you use. If your budget is limited, it is best to work with fewer colors and fewer brushes. If you already have supplies that you are comfortable with, stick with them.
Painting Surfaces
Surfaces are your choice. Each type will produce different results. Try to stay with 16X20 or smaller. Any larger is scary for the beginner.
Watercolor paper (pads or blocks)
Stretched canvas
Canvas boards
Masonite panels (These will need to be primed with gesso.)
Brushes
Synthetic brushes work best and are very reasonable. Keep in mind that if you paint large, you will need larger brushes. If you plan to paint small the brushes listed will work fine.
1” flat
½” flat
#8 round
#4 round
#4 liner
Acrylics
Buy the best quality acrylic paint available. Golden or Liquitex work fine. My personal choice is Interactive Acrylics, as these have qualities others don’t. All are available at Binders. Quality sets work fine and usually have a good selection of colors.
